Few things beat live jazz standards in a room small enough to feel every note. Athens-area jazz trio Trio Metro brings the Great American Songbook to life in an intimate room built to let every note breathe, expanding their lineup for one night with a vibraphonist and a vocalist you don't want to miss.
The music:
Trio Metro is Mindy Towe on sax, Tracy Reynolds on keys, and Ron Balthazor on drums. Their sets pull most often from the jazz standards of the Great American Songbook with room for contemporary covers along the way. For this show they team up with vibraphonist Tony McCutchen, a longtime fixture of the Athens and Atlanta scenes who spent three decades teaching at the University of Georgia before returning to Athens. Also local, classically trained vocalist Avi Radford joins the group on vocals.
This night is for jazz lovers, Great American Songbook fans, date night, and anyone who likes a quiet, attentive room where the music comes first.
The room
David's 105 is an intimate, seated listening room, the kind of attentive, music-first space where conversation drops to a hush and every note lands. Capacity is just 90, so there's not a bad seat in the house.
